UNICEF India praises Chhattisgarh’s dedication to promote nutrition…

The United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) India’s head Yasumasa Kimura has applauded the Chhattisgarh government led by CM Bhupesh Baghel for the work that has been done for the nutrition mission.

Yasumasa Kimura with the UNICEF delegation paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister at his residence office.

The Chhattisgarh government has been carrying out a malnutrition eradication campaign for children and women.

The campaign was planned as a holistic programme to eradicate malnutrition among children and anaemia among women.

Overall work that has been done in the field of the health sector, has made a significant improvement in the health index of Chhattisgarh.

Interacting with CM, Kimura said that the UNICEF India team visited Narayanpur, Kondagaon and Bastar districts of the Bastar division and has closely monitored the nutrition campaign.

He said that our team was impressed with the work that has been done in the field of malaria elimination which in turn results in a decreased number of malaria cases.

Good health facilities are available to the people and health awareness has also increased among people.

Chief UNICEF Office for Chhattisgarh Job Zachariah, Sam Sudheer Bandi, Dr. Arpana Deshpandey, and Vishal Vaswani of UNICEF were also present at the meeting.

On the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the Chhattisgarh government launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan’ in the Bastar division to address the problem of malnutrition and anaemia.

After the success of this campaign in the Bastar division, it has been expanded to the entire state.

About 2 lakh 10 thousand children have become malnutrition-free and one lakh women have become anaemia-free after the implementation of Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan.

Under this campaign, local nutritious food, hot food, egg, ‘Chikki’, groundnut, gram, and ready-to-eat supplementary nutritional food and millet at some places are being provided to children and women.

Women’s SHGs are the main participants in this campaign.
