Chhattisgarh secures fifth place with 58 medals in Eklavya National Sports Festival…

Chief Minister Baghel and Minister Dr. Tekam congratulated all players, Competition held from December 17 to 22 at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

The players from Chhattisgarh participated in the 3rd Eklavya National Sports Festival held at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

They showcased their dynamic and spectacular performance at the event. Chhattisgarh secured the fifth position in the competition with a total of 58 medals.

This includes 26 gold, 12 silver and 20 bronze medals. The National Sports Festival concluded on December 22, 2022. Children of Eklavya Adarsh Residential Schools from 22 states participated in this sports competition, and around 288 children from Eklavya schools of Chhattisgarh participated in this competition.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel congratulated the players on their achievements.

He said that along with better education in Eklavya Adarsh Residential School, they also focus on the mental and physical health of the children.

As a result of this, the children are performing well at the national level and making everyone proud. Scheduled Castes and Tribes Development Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam, Secretary D.D. Singh and Commissioner Mrs. Shammi Abidi have also congratulated the players on this wonderful achievement and wished them a bright future.

Players performed well in athletics, swimming and wrestling

Chhattisgarh players performed excellent in athletics and bagged a total of 20 medals including 13 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze.

In swimming, a total of 16 medals including 8 gold, 6 silver, and 2 bronze and in wrestling,10 medals including 3 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze were won by players.

Along with this, 3 medals including 1 Gold, 2 Bronze in Chess, 1 Gold in Kho-Kho (Boys), 1 Silver in Judo, and 2 Bronze in Yoga were won by players.

1 bronze was received each in Badminton, Kabaddi (Boys), Handball (Boys) and Kho-Kho (Girls) and 1 silver medal in weightlifting.

Arjun Kovachi, a student of Eklavya Adarsh Residential School based in Antagarh Kanker, performed brilliantly in the competition by winning a gold medal in 800m, 1500m and 4x400m races and a silver medal in 400m race.

Similarly, Sonadai Kashyap of Eklavya Tokapal of Bastar district won a gold medal in 400m, 200m and 100m race, Bhumika Rathia of Eklavya Charratangar in Raigarh and Tania Singh of Eklavya Palarikhurd in Sakti won a gold medal in the high jump. Sohan Oraon won 03 gold medals in the under-14 swimming category.
