Rajnandgaon: Godhan Nyaya Yojana a boon for cattle herders…

Activities related to purchasing cow dung, vermicompost production, their sale, and other livelihood activities are being conducted in Gauthans operated under the Chhattisgarh government’s ambitious ‘Godhan Nyaya Yojana’.

This scheme has made a very effective contribution to the economical empowerment of rural and urban cattle herders.

The business of animal husbandry is adopted by a large number of farmers in the district.

Farmers were unable to get the benefit of cow and buffalo dung in absence of a system or scheme, they were not producing organic manure through scientific methods and not collecting the dung excreted by wandering animals.

Through this scheme, an excellent initiative is being taken in the direction of organic farming by using organic fertilizers like vermicompost, and super compost made from cow dung. Reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides will reduce the pollution of land, water, air, and environment which in turn reduces the residues of chemicals in the food chain.

Using this method good quality food items can be obtained which is free from any chemical residues.

For the upcoming Kharif year 2023, effective efforts are being made to reduce the consumption of chemical fertilizers and to increase the availability of good quality vermicompost for the farmers.

Under the guidance of Collector Mr. Doman Singh, regular farmer training and seminar, Kisan Mela, and Gauthan Mela are being organized for the smooth operation of the scheme.

Under Suraji Gaon Yojana, 26 newly established Gauthans of the district have been paid Rs.40 thousand per Gauthan i.e. a total amount of Rs 10 lakh 40 thousand has been paid to Gauthan committees for maintenance and promotion. Godhan Nyay Yojana has become a beneficial means of income and employment generation for rural and urban cattle herders.
